About the Dharma Assembly
The Birthday of Medicine Buddha is a sacred occasion to pay homage to the Medicine Buddha, make wholesome aspirations, cultivate merits, and dedicate the virtues of our practice.
On this auspicious occasion, we are invited to cultivate reverence through prayers, sutra recitation, offerings, aspirations, and acts of kindness. May every wholesome thought be transformed into meaningful action, and may the merits be dedicated to all sentient beings, that they may be free from suffering, grow in wisdom and merit, and abide in peace and well-being.
Medicine Buddha, while cultivating the Bodhisattva path, made Twelve Great Vows for the benefit of all sentient beings, aspiring that they may be free from suffering and endowed with merit, wisdom, and well-being.
One of His Great Vows states:
“In my future life, when I attain unsurpassed, complete and perfect enlightenment, may my body be like vaidurya, radiant and pure, transparent within and without, free from all defilements.”
Through His great compassionate vows, Medicine Buddha embraces and guides sentient beings towards cultivating wholesome deeds, abandoning harmful actions, nurturing merit, and developing wisdom.
On this auspicious occasion of Medicine Buddha’s Birthday, may we not only make wholesome aspirations for ourselves and our loved ones, but extend these aspirations to all sentient beings.
One Vow, One Good Deed —
May every wholesome aspiration inspire a wholesome action, allowing us to cultivate virtue, create positive connections, and dedicate our merits for the benefit of all.
