The Fayuan Zhulin mentions eight benefits of offering light:

5. Enhanced Eloquence and Wisdom
6. Progress in Spiritual Practice
7. Favorable Rebirth — in the human realm, one may be born into favorable circumstances; in the heavenly realm, one's merits may increase
8. Clarity and Illumination of the Path — gaining clarity of purpose, illuminating the path ahead, and ultimately progressing towards enlightenment
